Brooke Erin Posey
June 12, 1999 - March 16, 2017
Brooke is the youngest daughter of Ernest Posey (Melissa), a long-time member of the Southern Yacht Club, and Marie Gregory (Todd). Sadly, Brooke was killed in an automobile accident on March 16, 2017 at the age of 17.
Though young, Brooke truly lived life to the fullest. Brooke joined the Southern Yacht Club swim team, The Seagulls, at the age of four. Brooke began riding at the age of eight and had become an accomplished equestrian competing in horse shows across the country. She enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, and sailing/boating. Brooke loved music, festivals, and boy bands (especially One Direction).
More than anything, however, Brooke was defined by her love of family and friends. For Brooke, “family” was much more than just her immediate family members. She loved bringing her entire blended, bonus, beautiful family together. Cousins too numerous to name were more like siblings. And, though Brooke loved her older family members, she adored her younger cousins, niece and nephew. The littlest family members truly had her wrapped around their little fingers.
Initially, the swim-a-thon was a one time event. We asked the Southern Yacht Club and the swim team if they would continue to host the event annually. After a little thought, we collectively chose to hold the swim-a-thon yearly on a weekend around Brooke’s birthday, June 12. In 2021, the swim-a-thon will be held on her 22nd birthday. Brooke always loved a good birthday party!
The Brooke Erin Posey Foundation was founded in April of 2019 to sponsor the Brooke E. Posey Swim-a-Thon and #BrookesActsofKindness movement, which spreads kindness throughout the New Orleans community in memory of Brooke.
